Custom Inuit Carpets  

Hand Tufted and Hand Knotted carpets is a new approach to expanding the vast numbers of Inuit graphic drawings by leading artists in Cape Dorset.
Inunoo Inuit Carpets are offering custom carpets based on existing designs and other drawings from various Inuit artists.

All Inuit carpets on this website, are produced in a series of either 6 or 8 of each design and are "One of a Kind" in their coloration, size, method and style of fabrication,(hand knotted or hand tufted) The design is retired after the series of carpets is completed.  Within the series, special orders for a custom colours and style and any 5' x 7' size or greater can be made.

The first step in creating a custom carpet is the design process. Colors are selected and yarns are dyed.  Design pattern is traced onto the cotton backing substrate,which is stretched on a special frame for the tufting process in the case of a tufted carpet.
All tufting is done by hand and a special eco-latex coating is applied to the back of the carpet for extra durability.The carpet then goes to the finishing floor where all necessary shearing and  carving is done. Final inspections and packaging completes the process.

Delivery of the finished carpet is 6-10 weeks depending on the method of construction. Carpets are fabricated with openings on the back to facilitate being hung on a wall as tapestries.

Pricing depends on the size of the custom carpet, type of yarns and manufacturing techniques. Deposit of 30% of estimated cost required on all custom carpets.

We suggest a sample be made, at an additional cost, prior to making the final carpet to determine color matching and techniques. Samples are 12" x 12", from a selected area of the final design.
